Tuesday September 13th, 2011 09:08 New (Old) Job!

I’m very happy to finally be able to tell you that I’ve got an exciting new job!

I’ve joined Aigua Media as Editor-in-Chief.

I’d like to say thanks to all of Aigua, especially the lovely ladies on the in-house fashion and beauty team, who have been so incredibly welcoming and lovely.

Of course, that’s probably because a lot of them know me from days of yore. Aigua is the company that bought the fashion and beauty sites from Shiny Media when it went into administration, so they own almost all the titles I launched / edited / contributed to during my time working in a similar role at Shiny. A lot of the staff are people I’ve worked with before, which makes being the ‘new girl’ a lot easier.

I don’t think it’s a big secret that, despite being given some wonderful opportunities since moving on, deep down my heart will always lie with Catwalk Queen. I have really loved the time I’ve spent away from the sites doing other things and I’ve worked with some amazing people. But having the chance to go back to that site and work on it again – and to be given the resources to hopefully do some amazing things with it in the coming months – was just too good an opportunity to turn down. I’ll be working across all the Aigua sites, but for obvious reasons Catwalk Queen will be a priority for me. I’m older and (I hope) a bit wiser now, and feel like this is an amazing opportunity to learn from the past and really take these sites to the next level.

I’ll still be updating Big Girls Browse, but how often remains to be seen. I love having my own little space where I can write what I want without having to consider the bottom line, so I don’t want to give that up. But obviously work comes first. I’m hoping that being immersed in the world of fashion again will give me more stuff to talk about on BGB, but I also remember from last time I worked on sites like CQ and Kiss and Makeup that it’s definitely not a 9 to 5, and I may face blogger burnout!

I’ll still be tweeting as @GemmaCartwright but you’ll also find me covering events and chatting fashion with the rest of the team @CatwalkQueen.

As a side note, moving on sadly meant leaving the fabulous Latest in Beauty. I want to say a huge thank you to Nort, Katie and the team for being absolutely fantastic and a joy to work with. I’ve rarely experienced such a positive, supportive environment, and will always look back on my time there with real affection. I know the site is going to go from strength to strength and I will continue to sing its praises to everyone I meet in the beauty industry.

About Me

I'm an online fashion and beauty writer based in London with a penchant for retro lingerie, tea dresses and overpriced cosmetics. By day, I work as editor in chief at Aigua Media. By night I drink wine and occasionally update BigGirlsBrowse.com.

The rumours are true. I am now reappearing at Catwalk Queen after a two and a half year break!
